Pixel Tribe's Goddess Order: An Interview with the Developers

We had the pleasure of interviewing Ilsun (Art Director) and Terron J. (Contents Director) from Pixel Tribe, the team behind the upcoming Kakao Games title, Goddess Order. This pixel RPG promises a captivating experience, and our Q&A reveals the creative process behind its development.

Crafting Pixel Perfection

Droid Gamers: What inspires the pixel sprites?

Ilsun: As Art Director, I draw inspiration from a vast wellspring of games and stories. Pixel art is about expressing form and movement through meticulous arrangement of tiny units. It's less about specific references and more about the subtle impact of years of experience. The initial characters, Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan, emerged from solo work, but their development truly blossomed through collaboration with my team. Discussions with scenario writers and combat designers further refined the characters, resulting in a cohesive art style. The process is often a fun, collaborative exploration of ideas.

Example: A discussion about a refined noblewoman who becomes a fierce dual-blade-wielding warrior might start with a simple sketch and evolve into a fully realized character through shared input.

Building a Fantasy World

Droid Gamers: How do you approach world-building in a fantasy RPG?

Terron J.: Goddess Order's worldbuilding starts with its characters. Lisbeth, Violet, and Jan established the game's core. Each character possesses a unique identity, purpose, and story. Developing these narratives felt less like work and more like an engaging journey, revealing their growth and heroism. The emphasis on manual controls reflects the power and agency these characters embody.

Designing Combat and Animations

Droid Gamers: How are combat styles and animations designed?

Terron J.: Goddess Order's combat features three characters using linked skills. Design involves defining each character's role (e.g., powerful attacker, support healer) and ensuring balanced combat through iterative discussions. The timing of linked skills is crucial for strategic advantage. If a character lacks unique utility or controls are cumbersome, adjustments are made.

Ilsun: Visually representing these characteristics involves careful consideration of weapons, appearance, and movements. While the game is 2D pixel art, we incorporate three-dimensional movement to enhance the visual impact. We even use real-world weapons to study movement for authenticity.

Terron J.: Finally, technical optimization is essential for smooth mobile gameplay. We meticulously test the game on various devices to ensure consistent performance and uninterrupted immersion, even on lower-spec devices.

The Future of Goddess Order

Droid Gamers: What's next for Goddess Order?

Ilsun: Goddess Order tells the story of the Lisbeth Knights saving the world. The unique graphics and combat system enhance immersion. We'll continue updating chapter and origin stories, adding activities like quests and treasure hunts. Advanced content with refined controls is also planned. We look forward to player feedback and continued support.
