"Path of Exile 2 Devs Implement Urgent Fixes Amid Negative Steam Reviews"

by Emery May 04,2025

Path of Exile 2 developer Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has announced further emergency changes to the action role-playing game in response to the backlash against the Dawn of the Hunt update. This update, released earlier this month, introduced significant nerfs that led to a drop in Steam user reviews to 'mostly negative.'

The Dawn of the Hunt expansion added the new Huntress class, specializing in hybrid melee and ranged combat with a Spear and Buckler. It also introduced five new ascension classes: the Ritualist, Amazon, Smith of Kitava, Tactician, and Lich, along with over one hundred new unique items and expanded crafting options. However, the community's reaction was overwhelmingly negative, with many players feeling that the game's pace had been slowed down too much, turning it into a "total slog."

The most helpful review on Steam over the past 30 days highlights several issues:

  • Boss fights are unnecessarily long.
  • Skills are underpowered.
  • The game's stability is questionable.
  • The overall experience is described as "incredibly awful."

Other reviews echo these sentiments, criticizing the game for its slow pace, large map sizes, forced combo gameplay, and reduced loot drops. Players feel that the game restricts their build freedom, forcing them to play in a way that doesn't align with the typical ARPG experience.

In response, GGG has already implemented some changes and has now announced further adjustments in the upcoming 0.2.0e update, set to be released on April 11. These changes aim to address the community's concerns and improve the gameplay experience.

Path of Exile 2 Update 0.2.0e Patch Notes

Monster Speed Changes

To address the issue of players feeling overwhelmed by monsters, GGG has made several adjustments:

  • General Changes: Removed interrupt events on fast melee attacks for human monsters like Cultists, Faridun, and Tribal Humans. The Haste Aura modifier is no longer applied to already fast monsters.
  • Act 1: Adjusted Werewolf and Tendril Prowlers to walk after melee actions, reduced Hungering Stalkers' life and damage, decreased the number of Bloom Serpents and Venomous Crabs, and modified Cultists' behavior.
  • Act 2: Replaced Boulder Ants with Risen Maraketh in Titan Valley and removed interrupt events for Faridun.
  • Act 3: Modified Diretusk Boar and Antlion Charger's charge behavior, adjusted the Lost City's monster composition, and fixed the Slitherspitter's damage type in Venom Crypts.

Boss Changes

  • Viper Napuatzi: Reduced the number and size of Chaos Rains, improved visibility of drop locations.
  • Uxmal: Reduced location changes, removed Energy Shield recharge while airborne, and decreased Flame Breath frequency.
  • Xyclucian: Removed ground foliage to improve visibility of effects.

Player Minion Changes

  • Adjusted minion revive timers to mitigate long waits when multiple minions die.
  • Disenchanting Bind Spectre or Tame Beast gems now unbinds them for reuse.
  • Tamed beasts can now fit through gaps accessible to players.

Other Player Balance

  • Rally support now works with any Melee Attack.
  • Glory is no longer consumed if the player is interrupted during use.
  • Fixed a bug with Blood Boils from the Ritualist ascendancy.

Crafting Changes

  • Added all mods to runes for caster weapons.
  • Introduced a Blank rune at Renly's shop in the Burning Village, which can be forged into any elemental rune.

Performance Improvements

  • Optimized ground foliage in various areas to improve performance.

Deployment Timeline

The 0.2.0e patch will be deployed at around 10AM NZT. Additional changes are planned for after the weekend.

Future Changes

  • Charm Changes: Charm slots on belts will now be granted by implicit mods, with a cap based on the belt's level. Several charms will be more powerful and rewarding.
  • Stash Tab Affinities: Added for Socketables, Fragments, Breach, Expedition, Ritual, and Charms.
  • Atlas Bookmarks: Players can now bookmark locations on their atlas for easy navigation.

The question remains whether these changes will be sufficient to address the community's concerns and restore the game's positive reception. Path of Exile 2 has been a successful release for GGG, but the backlash has posed significant challenges, even affecting the development of Path of Exile 1.
