Cyberpunk 2077 to Fill 64GB, a Quarter of Switch 2 Storage

by Emily Dec 24,2025

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition requires 64GB of storage on the Nintendo Switch 2, a notable reduction compared to the 100–110GB needed on Xbox or PlayStation 5. Still, for the Switch 2's 256GB internal storage, the game occupies a substantial 25% of available space.

Set to launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, Cyberpunk 2077 will be sold as a physical 64GB game card or as a digital download via the Nintendo eShop.

Nintendo also recently clarified that some upcoming Switch 2 game cards won't include the full game; instead, they'll provide a download code. This does not apply to Cyberpunk 2077.

This raises another question: how fast will the Switch 2's internal storage be used up?

With 256GB of built-in storage, the Switch 2 represents a major upgrade over the original Switch, which offered only 32GB. Early indications, however, signal that games for the new console will be significantly larger.

As already noted, Cyberpunk 2077 takes up 64GB. For perspective, one of the largest Nintendo Switch titles, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, required just 16GB. Upcoming Switch 2 releases—like the $80 Mario Kart World—are expected to demand considerably more room.

The clear answer? Expandable storage. PlayStation 5 and Xbox support it, and the original Switch always allowed it. But while the first-gen model accepted widely available microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards, the Switch 2 is exclusive to microSD Express. That means legacy cards won’t work, and users must purchase new—and more expensive—memory options.

As seen here, IGN’s deals team has already sourced the best prices for Switch 2-compatible microSD Express cards, including 128GB ($44.99), 256GB ($59.99), 512GB ($99.99), and 1TB ($199.99) models from SanDisk and Lexar. Some options are already selling quickly and are listed as temporarily unavailable on Amazon.

Nintendo has teamed up with SanDisk and Samsung to release official branded cards, though past trends suggest these may be priced higher than comparable third-party versions. With the Switch 2 boosting demand, more manufacturers could enter the microSD Express market—whether this drives down costs is yet to be determined.
