Nightmare Change Coming to Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight's Nightmare Gets a Much-Needed Overhaul

Freddy Krueger, or The Nightmare, is receiving a significant rework in an upcoming Dead by Daylight patch. This update aims to revitalize his gameplay, addressing long-standing concerns about his competitiveness and better reflecting his iconic horror persona.

The core change is the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, granting The Nightmare far greater tactical flexibility. These powers themselves are also receiving substantial upgrades. Dream Snares will now travel at 12 m/s, navigating walls and stairs, while Dream Pallets can be triggered to explode, inflicting damage on Survivors. Crucially, both powers will exhibit different effects depending on whether the Survivor is asleep or awake, adding a layer of strategic depth.

Key Changes for The Nightmare:

The Nightmare's teleportation abilities are also being enhanced. He can now teleport to any generator in the Dream World (completed, blocked, or endgame) and will automatically teleport within 12 meters of any healing Survivor. This improved mobility, coupled with the enhanced Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, promises to significantly boost his effectiveness. Furthermore, Survivors healing in the Dream World will be briefly revealed via Killer Instinct, providing The Nightmare with valuable information.

Several Add-Ons are also being adjusted to encourage more creative Killer builds. However, The Nightmare's perks (Fire Up, Remember Me, and Blood Warden) remain unchanged, potentially to preserve the original character design.

Upcoming Rework Details:

  • [CHANGE] Swap between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets using the Active Ability.
  • [NEW] Dream Snares move at 12 m/s (5-second cooldown), traversing walls and stairs (but not ledges). Effects vary based on whether the Survivor is asleep or awake.
  • [NEW] Dream Pallets explode 1.5 seconds after activation (3-meter radius). Impact effects differ for sleeping and awake Survivors.
  • [NEW] Teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, endgame) or healing Survivor in the Dream World. Teleporting near a Survivor reveals them via Killer Instinct.
  • [CHANGE] Teleport cooldown reduced from 45 to 30 seconds; cancellation removed.
  • [NEW] Healing Survivors in the Dream World are revealed via Killer Instinct (lingering effect after stopping).
  • [CHANGE] Sleeping Survivors can use any Alarm Clock to wake up.
  • [NEW] Alarm Clocks have a 45-second cooldown after use.

These changes, currently implemented in the Public Test Build (PTB), suggest a significant improvement to The Nightmare's overall gameplay, promising a more engaging and competitive experience for both Killers and Survivors. The exact release date for these changes is yet to be announced.
