The eagerly awaited Monster Hunter Wilds has finally arrived on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, continuing the legacy of Capcom's iconic monster-hunting series. Building on the success of Monster Hunter World and its expansive Iceborne expansion, Wilds promises a thrilling experience. But just how long will it take you to conquer its main story and delve into the postgame? Here, we share the insights of different IGN team members on their journey through Monster Hunter Wilds, detailing the hours they invested, their priorities, and their experiences with the game's postgame content.
I reached the credits in Monster Hunter Wilds’ campaign in just under **15 hours**. This marks the actual end of the story, unlike the mid-point credits in Monster Hunter Rise. However, this only signifies the completion of the Low Rank section, with High Rank quests and challenges waiting to be tackled afterward.
I spent an additional **15 hours** completing nearly all the High Rank quests, which I consider the true endgame. By this point, I had encountered all the monsters, unlocked all the systems and crafting options available at launch, and explored the new Artian weapon system, designed to keep players engaged. Thanks to Wilds’ streamlined progression, I only needed another five hours to optimize my desired weapons and armor set, though there's always more to explore with other weapon types.
I completed the final "story" mission in High Rank at around **40 hours**, roughly **22 hours after the Low Rank credits**. It's challenging to be precise as I spent considerable time in menus for guide-related work. During the Low Rank phase, I didn't delve deeply into the game's complex systems, focusing instead on crafting with available resources and moving forward without repeating hunts. In High Rank, while I occasionally deviated to hunt new optional monsters and join friends, my main focus remained on progressing the story.
I specifically upgraded my weapon once by hunting an extra Ajarakan, but otherwise, I used what I had to reach the end quickly. Ideally, with more time, I would have spent around 60 hours crafting a more efficient set. I still have plenty to do in the postgame, including catching endemic life, fishing, and completing remaining side missions. I'm excited to farm for Talismans, craft different armor, experiment with Artian weapons, and enjoy leisurely playthroughs with friends. Upcoming event quests and title updates with new monsters will keep me engaged for months to come.
It took me **just under 16 hours** to finish Monster Hunter Wilds’ main story. As someone relatively new to the series, I was surprised by the runtime, especially compared to my 25-hour experience with Monster Hunter World. The battles felt more manageable, likely due to the game's streamlined approach for newcomers, with less emphasis on elemental strategies, loadout customization, and extensive tracking.
The frequent alternation between story cutscenes and monster battles contributed significantly to the shorter runtime. While this made the story more accessible and enjoyable, it felt less like a traditional Monster Hunter experience until the postgame kicked in. I appreciated the swift narrative closure but wondered if it left too much of the series' signature depth on the sidelines until after the credits.
I hit the initial credits in Monster Hunter Wilds after about **20 hours**. Most of this time was dedicated to completing optional and side quests, with some time spent exploring the game world, hunting endemic life, and optimizing my in-game settings and camps.
It took me an additional **15 hours** to complete all the High Rank missions and side quests, encountering all the post-credits monsters. Since then, I've logged nearly **70 hours** enjoying various activities such as hunting with friends, farming decorations, and pursuing monster crowns. Wilds has been a delightful experience, and I'm eagerly anticipating future title updates that will introduce more monsters to the roster.
I reached the first credits in Monster Hunter Wilds after about **20 hours**. My focus was primarily on the main story, though I took brief detours to craft a couple of cool armor sets and experiment with various weapons, notably the Switch Axe.
Currently, I've accumulated **65 hours** in the game, and I don't consider the credits as the true end. The story feels like an extended tutorial, leading into a vast world of hunting, new monsters, and crafting opportunities. I'm looking forward to exploring more, even if it means encountering less favored creatures like Congalala again.
