The team at MercurySteam, comprised of former members of Rebel Act Studios, brings a rich heritage to their latest project, *Blades of Fire*. Their previous work on the cult classic *Severance: Blade of Darkness*, released in 2001, is particularly noteworthy. This game was celebrated for its innovative combat system that enabled players to dismember foes, adding a layer of brutality and realism to the experience. *Severance* has served as a significant source of inspiration for the new endeavor.
In developing *Blades of Fire*, MercurySteam also looked to contemporary action-adventure games for inspiration. Notably, they were influenced by the cinematic combat and richly detailed world of the *God of War* reboot from Santa Monica Studio. The goal was to blend fast-paced action with RPG elements, creating a deeply engaging and immersive experience for players.
A standout feature of *Blades of Fire* is its unique weapon crafting system. Players will have the opportunity to forge their own blades, customizing aspects such as length, weight, durability, and balance. This system empowers players to adapt their weapons to suit their individual combat styles, adding a personal touch to the gameplay.
The narrative of *Blades of Fire* centers around the warrior Aran de Lira, who embarks on a quest to confront a cunning queen with the power to transform metal into stone. Throughout his journey, Aran will encounter 50 different types of enemies, each demanding a strategic approach to defeat.
*Blades of Fire* is set to launch on May 22, 2025, and will be available on PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox Series, and PS5. This eagerly anticipated release promises to deliver a thrilling and customizable gaming experience, drawing from both classic and modern influences.
