During a recent showcase in Kyoto, Creative Director Johnathan Dumont revealed Assassin's Creed Shadows will offer 30-40 hours of core story content, with over 80 additional hours of side activities. The development team is actively considering adding New Game+ and other modes based on community feedback - a particularly exciting prospect after Valhalla's lack of this feature disappointed many fans.

Dumont highlighted Shadows' dynamic seasonal world, innovative gameplay systems, and vastly expanded Hideout customization among its key features. The title will also introduce fresh Animus narrative elements that connect to future Assassin's Creed projects.

A Long-Awaited Japanese Setting

Dumont shared the team's passion for finally bringing Assassin's Creed to Japan, mentioning classic samurai films like 13 Assassins and Kurosawa works as major inspirations while adding the franchise's unique flavor. The developers acknowledge the Yasuke controversy but remain focused on creating an authentic yet fresh Japanese experience that respects the setting while delivering compelling Assassin's Creed gameplay.

The Hideout system represents a major evolution for the series. Located in Izumi Settsu's secluded valley, this base grows alongside your journey. "We wanted to take a bold step forward from previous bases," explained Systems Associate Director Dany. Players receive an acre of land to customize with buildings, gardens, and decorations that progressively unlock throughout the adventure.

A Living, Breathing Headquarters

Your Hideout becomes home to various allies with unique personalities and backstories. These characters naturally populate different areas - warriors training in the dojo, others socializing in gathering spaces - creating organic interactions. "Having writers from four global studios collaborate on these character moments makes the Hideout feel alive," Dany noted. "These little interactions transform it into the heart of your growing brotherhood."
