Rumor: Naughty Dog's Next Game Will Be Similar to a FromSoftware Title

It appears that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet may offer players significantly more freedom compared to the studio's previous projects. Various sources report that the developers drew inspiration from Elden Ring, aiming to implement open-world mechanics centered on exploration.

Journalist Ben Hanson reveals that the game will unfold on a single vast planet, where players will uncover the secrets of a vanished civilization and delve into a newly emerging religion that becomes central to the narrative. It remains unclear how closely the project will align with the classic open-world formula, but it’s clear the developers are moving away from the linear structure seen in their earlier games.

The Heretic Prophet will be the studio’s first project where the player acts entirely alone, with no companions or allies. As Neil Druckmann notes, the studio seeks to evoke a profound sense of solitude within an uncharted universe while exploring deep themes of faith and belief. The story unfolds in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, which has been isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over six centuries. It is here that bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives under the terms of her contract.

Druckmann also mentions that the game’s development was shaped by titles like Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island, suggesting a move away from traditional hints toward a storytelling approach where players must piece together narrative fragments on their own.

The game was announced at TGA 2024 and still does not have a release date.
