New Zois Cannot Be Born If There Are Too Many Ghosts

In inZOI, cities can evolve into ghost towns if they are overwhelmed by spirits, significantly altering the city's dynamics. In the latest edition of PC Gamer Magazine, inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim discussed the profound impact of the game's karma system on player experience.

Kim explained, "Each action a Zoi takes contributes to their karma tally." He further elaborated, "At the moment of death, a karma assessment determines the fate of the soul. A low score results in the Zoi becoming a ghost, necessitating the redemption of karma points for a chance at rebirth."

If the number of ghosts escalates unchecked, the city's future is at stake. Kim stated, "An excess of ghosts prevents new Zois from being born and families from forming, challenging players to manage the karma of the city's inhabitants effectively." This mechanism adds a layer of depth, urging players to maintain a balance within the karma system to prevent their cities from becoming desolate.

Kim also clarified the intention behind the karma system, saying, "It's not about enforcing 'good' actions while penalizing 'bad' ones." He added, "Life is complex, and every action holds its own significance. We encourage players to engage with inZOI's karma system to unlock a variety of events and stories, exploring the multifaceted nature of life."

inZOI stands as a formidable contender in the life simulation genre, yet its director, Hyungjun Kim, does not see it as direct competition to The Sims.

Kim expressed, "We view inZOI as an additional choice for fans of the genre, rather than a competitor to The Sims." He showed reverence for the established franchise, stating, "We hold great respect for the legacy The Sims has crafted over the years. Achieving such depth in a short time is challenging, given the vast and intricate nature of life simulations."

The goal for inZOI, according to Kim, is to offer a distinct experience through its unique features. He highlighted, "inZOI empowers players to craft the life they envision, equipped with an array of creative tools. We utilize the realistic visual capabilities of Unreal Engine 5, extensive customization options, and AI-powered creative tools. We invite players to explore these features, bring their imaginations to life, and immerse themselves as protagonists in their own worlds."
