Deadlock Changes from Four Lanes to Three in New Major Update

by Lillian Feb 27,2025

Deadlock's Massive Overhaul: From Four Lanes to Three

Deadlock, the unique third-person MOBA, has unveiled its most significant update in months: a dramatic shift from a four-lane to a three-lane map. This comprehensive rework, detailed in a February 26, 2025 Steam post, promises a streamlined gameplay experience.

Deadlock's New Three-Lane Map

The core change involves reducing the lanes from four to three. This simplification is accompanied by extensive map-wide adjustments impacting visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, power-up buffs, juke spots, and even the mid-boss. The developers acknowledge that the previous four-lane design, while innovative, added complexity.

Simplified Farming Mechanics

The update also introduces a significant change to minion farming. Players no longer need to last-hit enemies to gain Soul Orbs, making early-game resource gathering more accessible. Further improvements include enhanced netcode and optimized client performance.

A Vital Resurgence?

This major update is a critical step for Deadlock, aiming to revitalize player engagement. While the game reached an all-time high of 171,490 concurrent players in September 2024, player numbers have since dropped significantly. This overhaul seeks to address this decline and re-engage the community.

Addressing Update Frequency

Valve Developer Yoshi explained on Deadlock's Discord server (January 2025) that the previous bi-weekly update schedule proved too restrictive. Future major updates will be less frequent but more substantial, allowing for more comprehensive changes. Hotfixes will continue as needed.

Currently, Deadlock is in active development and friend-invite-only playtesting. A specific release date for the updated version remains unannounced. Visit our Deadlock page for the latest information.
