Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Falls Apart Unexpectedly

by Liam Apr 12,2025

YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared his disappointment over the cancellation of a Soma animated show he had been working on for a year. In a video titled 'A Bad Month,' Jacksepticeye revealed that the project, which he was deeply passionate about, had fallen through, leaving him "quite upset."

Soma, a critically acclaimed survival horror science fiction video game developed by Frictional Games, was released in 2015. Jacksepticeye, a fan of the game, streamed it extensively upon its release and frequently cites it as one of his top video games of all time. His enthusiasm for Soma led him to collaborate with the developers on the animated show, which was poised to go into full production.

In his video, Jacksepticeye expressed his frustration and sadness over the project's abrupt end. He mentioned that an unnamed party decided to take the project "in a different direction," leading to its collapse. The cancellation significantly disrupted his plans for 2025, as he had intended to focus heavily on the show, reducing his content uploads to devote more time to it.

Jacksepticeye shared how the project's failure left him feeling lost and uncertain about his priorities for the year. He had hoped to share this creative endeavor with his fans, making it a collaborative experience. The sudden halt of the project left him with nothing to show for his efforts and time, which he described as "so frustrating."

Following Soma, Frictional Games released two more Amnesia titles: Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned the company's intention to shift focus away from horror games to explore other emotional themes in their future projects. This shift aims to enhance the immersive fantasy experience for players, moving beyond traditional horror elements.
