Square Enix Ends Romancing SaGa Re:universe Service

Romancing SaGa Re:universe Global Version Shutting Down December 2024

The journey for Romancing SaGa Re:universe's global version is reaching its final chapter. December 2nd, 2024 marks the official end of service - though whether this comes as shocking news or an inevitable conclusion depends on who you ask. Interestingly, the Japanese version will continue operating as usual.

The Countdown Begins

With the closure now confirmed, players have exactly two months left to enjoy the game. Following the September 29th maintenance, the developers have already discontinued item sales requiring paid jewels and Google Play Points exchanges.

Originally launching in June 2020, this international adaptation of the classic RPG series experienced both triumphs and setbacks during its four-year run. While praised for its stunning artwork, immersive soundtrack and relatively generous gacha mechanics, the global version struggled to achieve universal acclaim.

The Japanese edition continues thriving with an active player base, but the global release faced challenges. Missing content like the Solistia update and the absence of 6-star character upgrades - features that Japanese players have enjoyed for nearly a year - ultimately led to dwindling interest among international fans.

The Bigger Picture

This marks yet another mobile game shutdown for Square Enix in 2024. The publisher previously discontinued service for Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius and two Dragon Quest mobile titles earlier this year.

For those new to this adaptation of the classic SaGa franchise, Romancing SaGa Re:universe offers a traditional turn-based JRPG experience. Whether you're a longtime player wanting to savor the final moments or a newcomer curious to try it, there's still time to download it from the Google Play Store.
