Beginner's Ultimate Guide to Building Defense

by Olivia May 01,2025

Build Defense is a thrilling Roblox game that challenges players to construct a base and survive against a variety of threats, including monster attacks, tornados, bombs, and aliens. While it might remind you of Minecraft at first, Build Defense actually draws more inspiration from the original Fortnite.

If you're new to the game, our Beginner's Guide is here to help you get started and enjoy the experience to the fullest.

Build Defense Beginner’s Guide

Here are some essential tips we wish we knew when we started playing Build Defense. Implementing these strategies will enhance your gameplay and accelerate your progress.

The object of the game is to survive…

When you first enter your world and claim your plot of land, it's easy to assume that your goal is to protect it at all costs. However, the true objective of Build Defense is to survive, or simply put, not die. The game will continuously throw dangers at you, and your task is to outlast them. Ideally, you should fortify your plot with a defensive structure, but you can also roam around the world until the threat subsides—a strategy that works surprisingly well. Each time you survive, you earn a "Win" and some in-game currency, which is key to progressing in the game. So, keep an eye on the screen messages and focus on staying alive.

… dying is completely normal

Don't be discouraged if you die in Build Defense—it's a common occurrence with minimal consequences. You'll respawn immediately, lose your items, and fail the current wave of enemies, but these setbacks are manageable. You can repurchase your weapons and items, and fortunately, your structures remain intact after monster attacks and disasters. Another wave of enemies arrives every two minutes, giving you plenty of opportunities to try again. In essence, all you really lose is a bit of time, which isn't too bad at all.

Build high, not low

Initially, building a wall around your plot might seem like a solid defense strategy, but it's not very effective. Monsters can exploit any entry and exit points. A better approach is to construct a set of stairs leading high into the sky and create a platform at the top. When night falls, you can climb up and wait out the danger. The steep stairs will cause many monsters to fall, and those that reach the top can be met with a welcoming committee of turrets. This setup is highly effective and should get you through most nights.

Don’t just build, explore!

There's a whole world to explore beyond your plot in Build Defense. You can visit other players, trade ores, and even embark on quests. While most quests require a certain number of Wins to unlock, some, like the Gingerbread’s House quest, are available right away. Completing these quests is worthwhile, as they can unlock new building parts and enhance your gameplay experience.

The “Shop” isn’t just for premium items

As you advance in the game, don't forget to explore the Shop. Most items can be purchased with in-game currency, but you'll need to accumulate some Wins first. So, play the game for a while before diving into the Shop. Also, remember to join the Swiftplay Roblox group and to like, favorite, and follow the game to receive a free gift.

When you’re ready, move to the next area

Once you've earned enough Wins (190), you can transition to the next area and start the cycle anew. You'll encounter new disasters, fresh quests, and innovative building opportunities.

That's the essence of Build Defense. Enjoy surviving and building your defenses, and don't forget to check out our Build Defense codes for some cool in-game freebies.
