Beginner's Guide to Mastering Rune Slayer

by Eric May 29,2025

If you’ve been eagerly waiting for Rune Slayer to finally release after its two postponed launches, let me tell you—it was worth the wait. This MMORPG gem offers a thrilling experience, but it does come with its fair share of challenges, especially for newcomers. Fear not, though—we’ve put together a comprehensive guide to help you navigate your early days in Rune Slayer.

Essential Tips for Beginners

Avoid Random PvP Attacks

When we first heard about Rune Slayer’s full-loot PvP system, we braced ourselves for chaos. Surprisingly, the reality is less dramatic than expected. Dying in Rune Slayer doesn’t cost you anything—you simply respawn and carry on. However, attacking other players comes with consequences. Doing so triggers a bounty system: the more you kill, the larger your bounty grows. And guess what happens when you die with a high bounty? You’ll drop significantly more items. So, unless you have a solid reason or a team to back you up, it’s best to avoid unnecessary PvP confrontations.

Craft Bags Early and Often

Inventory management is crucial in Rune Slayer. Both your bank space and inventory slots are incredibly limited. Before you know it, your 50-item limit will fill up faster than you think. Thankfully, the game allows you to craft bags to expand your storage capacity. The first bag you can create is the Cotton Bag, which provides an additional 10 slots. Head north of Wayshire for Cotton and south for Flax (be cautious of mobs in the latter area). Always prioritize crafting these bags as soon as possible.

Understand Pet Mechanics

One common misunderstanding is that pets die permanently when their health reaches zero. Not true! Instead, pets go into a five-minute cooldown period after falling unconscious. During this time, they cannot be summoned. To check the remaining cooldown, press T. Once the timer ends, simply press T again to bring them back. Pro tip: If you need to heal your pet quickly, simply store and unstow it at the Stable Master—you get one free slot to do this.

Accept Every Quest

Rune Slayer is packed with quests, and while most aren’t memorable, they all serve a purpose. Many quests overlap, allowing you to complete multiple objectives simultaneously. For instance, combining two seemingly unrelated tasks into one saves time and effort. Don’t hesitate to grab every quest you encounter, whether it’s from the Job Board or elsewhere. Trust us—turning in several quests at once feels far more rewarding than tackling them individually.

Experiment with Crafting

Crafting is essential in Rune Slayer, and while you should focus on creating items you need, don’t shy away from experimenting. Crafting something you don’t immediately require can sometimes unlock advanced recipes. For example, smelting your first piece of Iron Ore opened up a range of new Iron Armor options. So, whenever you have leftover materials, take the opportunity to experiment and expand your crafting repertoire.

Join a Guild

While Rune Slayer is designed to be solo-friendly, certain enemies are meant to be tackled in groups. These tough foes often feature large health pools and are best handled with a team. The simplest way to find teammates is by joining a guild. Either shout in the general chat or connect via the official Rune Slayer Discord server to meet fellow adventurers. Having guildmates ensures smoother progress through challenging content.
