WoW Patch 11.1: Two New Race Types Added

Summary

  • Patch 11.1 in World of Warcraft introduces Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races using Goblin jetpacks.
  • The Undermine zone in Patch 11.1 will not allow traditional flying, instead using customizable cars and jetpacks.
  • Skyrocket races challenge players with ring collection, speed, and difficulty.

World of Warcraft is set to launch two thrilling new race types in Patch 11.1: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races featuring Goblin jetpacks. These races will replace Skyriding in Undermine, a new zone introduced in the first major content update for World of Warcraft: The War Within.

Patch 11.1, dubbed Undermined, transports players to the expansive subterranean city of Undermine, the Goblin capital. Despite its vastness, flying is prohibited within the zone. Instead, players will navigate using the dynamic and customizable D.R.I.V.E. system, a car-like mount that can outpace even Skyriding. World of Warcraft has confirmed that the Breakneck races will fully leverage the capabilities of the D.R.I.V.E. system.

Additionally, Patch 11.1 introduces Skyrocket races, which offer a novel challenge using Goblin jetpacks. These races combine aspects of both traditional flying and Skyriding, requiring players to maintain momentum without the ability to stop mid-air. Footage from the Public Test Realm, shared by WoW content creator MrGM, shows racers accelerating by collecting rings, though increased speed makes turning less responsive, adding to the race's difficulty.

In Undermine, where Skyriding is unavailable, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races will offer achievements for achieving Bronze, Silver, and Gold times. Additionally, reverse versions of all Skyrocket and D.R.I.V.E. Breakneck races are included, though without Advanced or Challenge courses akin to some Skyriding races.

The initial reception to the Skyrocket races has been mixed. Enthusiasm is high among some fans eager to try this new racing style, while others find the jetpack flying somewhat stiff and less responsive than Skyriding. Fortunately, with Patch 11.1 still in development, there's time for further refinement before its expected release in February.
