Ubisoft maintains strong preorder numbers for Assassin's Creed Shadows despite setbacks. The publisher's latest financial report indicates preorders are comparable to those of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the franchise's second-best seller.
CEO Yves Guillemot expressed confidence in the game's March 20th launch, citing positive early previews praising its narrative, immersive experience, and dual protagonist gameplay. He lauded the development team's dedication to delivering the franchise's most ambitious title yet.
Originally slated for November, then February 14th, the game's release was delayed to March 20th. The game's success is crucial for Ubisoft, following recent underperforming titles and investor concerns. It's the first mainline Assassin's Creed since 2020 and the long-awaited Japan-set installment.
The promotional period has faced challenges, including apologies for historical inaccuracies in the game's depiction of Japan and unauthorized use of a historical recreation group's flag. Further controversy arose from the removal of a "insensitive" collectible statue by PureArts. These issues, coupled with delays, have led to growing fan impatience.
