There's a New Game of Thrones Illustrated Edition Coming in November, but Still No Winds of Winter

by Julian Mar 05,2025

George R.R. Martin recently announced the upcoming illustrated edition of A Feast for Crows, the fourth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series to receive this treatment. Illustrated by Jeffrey R. McDonald, the book is slated for release on November 4, 2025. Pre-orders are available through major online retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target.

A Feast for Crows: The Illustrated Edition

This release marks five years since the last illustrated edition (A Storm of Swords) was published in November 2020. The new edition will also include a foreword by Joe Abercrombie, and a preview of interior illustrations is promised later this spring. The first three illustrated books in the series are already available for purchase.

The Winds of Winter Update (or Lack Thereof):

While this news is exciting for fans of the illustrated editions, there's still no concrete release date for The Winds of Winter. Martin's December 2024 interview hinted at the possibility of never completing the series, despite having already written 1,100 pages (as of November 2023). It seems likely that the illustrated editions of the first five books will be completed before The Winds of Winter sees publication.

Will George R.R. Martin finish A Song of Ice and Fire?
