For fans of classic JRPGs, *Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake* offers a nostalgic journey back to the roots of the beloved franchise. However, with its old-school difficulty, here are some essential tips to help you embark on your adventure to defeat Baramos.
At the start of the game, you'll encounter a personality test conducted by "She Who Watches Over All." This test may seem mysterious at first, but it's crucial as it determines your character's personality, which in turn affects your stat growth. The personality assigned to the Hero can significantly influence your gameplay, so choose wisely. While you can alter personalities with specific accessories, it's often simpler to restart and retake the quiz for your preferred outcome. If you're aiming for the top, the "Vamp" personality offers the best stat boosts, but it's exclusive to a female Hero, so consider that when creating your character.
In Aliahan, you'll visit Patty's Party Planning Place, where Patty will suggest party members. However, for a more tailored experience, head to the second floor and speak with the man at the counter. Here, you can customize your party with classes not offered by Patty. Even if you choose the same classes, customizing on the second floor allows you to allocate stats and influence personalities, creating stronger team members. Regardless of your choices, ensure you include a Priest in your party for essential healing magic.
Early access to powerful weapons is crucial in *Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake* due to their high cost. Seek out the Boomerang and Thorn Whip during your exploration. The Boomerang is located on the third floor of Dreamer's Tower in a chest, while the Thorn Whip can be obtained in Aliahan by trading two Mini Medals to Morgan Minimann at the bottom of the well. You can collect four Mini Medals early on—two in Aliahan and two in Dreamer's Tower. These weapons are invaluable as they can hit multiple enemies simultaneously, making them ideal for the Hero and a strength-focused character like a Warrior or Martial Artist.
In modern RPGs, controlling your party is often a given, but in *Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake*, the default setting leaves party behavior to AI. To gain better control during combat, navigate to the Tactics menu and switch your party's behavior to "Follow Orders." This small adjustment can make a significant difference, allowing you to strategically command your team members in battle.
Early in the game, enemies can quickly overwhelm and inflict heavy damage on an unprepared party. Fast travel isn't available until the Hero reaches level 8 and learns the Zoom spell. Until then, keep a stock of Chimaera Wings handy. These wings allow you to fast-travel to previously visited locations, even from within dungeons, and cost only 25 gold coins. They can save you significant time and help keep your party safe during critical moments.
*Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake* is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch, offering players across various platforms the chance to dive into this classic adventure.
