Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Mountaintop Studios, the developer behind the newly released FPS, Spectre Divide, has responded to significant player backlash regarding high in-game skin and bundle prices. Just hours after launch, the studio announced substantial price reductions and refunds.

Price Cuts and Refunds

Following widespread criticism, Spectre Divide implemented a 17-25% price reduction across weapons and outfits. Game director Lee Horn confirmed this in a statement, adding that players who purchased items before the price adjustment will receive a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.

The studio acknowledged player feedback, stating their commitment to making changes. This decision comes in direct response to negative reactions to the initial pricing, particularly concerning bundles like the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece, initially priced at approximately $85 (9,000 SP).

Exceptions and Mixed Reactions

It's important to note that the price adjustments do not apply to Starter packs, Sponsorships, or Endorsement upgrades. However, players who purchased the Founder's or Supporter packs and subsequently bought these excluded items will still receive the additional SP refund.

Despite the price reductions and refunds, player reaction remains divided. While some appreciate the developer's responsiveness, the game currently holds a 49% negative rating on Steam, reflecting the initial negative reception. Social media comments range from cautious optimism ("Def not enough but it’s a start!") to more critical assessments concerning the timing of the changes and suggestions for further improvements, such as allowing individual item purchases from bundles. Some players expressed concerns about the game's long-term viability given the initial pricing controversy and the potential for future competition.
