Bethesda Fixes Oblivion Remaster Visual Bugs

by Audrey Jan 22,2026

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered PC players encountered issues following today's surprise update, though Bethesda confirms a solution is in progress.

Gamers discovered Virtuos' major re-release had received an unannounced update this morning. With no patch notes explaining the changes, many continued playing normally. Unfortunately, several players realized this first update introduced more technical problems than it resolved.

"Upscaling options are completely locked now," a Reddit user explained. "The setting shows 'off' but clicking does nothing. After restarting, my 5800X3D/RTX 5080 setup barely hits 60fps on high settings. Great job with this patch!"

While some players experience minimal changes, others report severe framerate drops. Many note the total loss of upscaling controls – particularly frustrating as the remaster's launch weekend begins.

Is this your first time playing Oblivion, or have you experienced the original?

Bethesda responded via their support page, clarifying the update contained "minor backend adjustments" rather than gameplay changes. Microsoft Store users appear most affected, with graphics settings becoming inaccessible.

"Existing graphical configurations remain active," Bethesda stated. "The UI currently prevents adjustments, but we're investigating a fix and will provide updates soon."

There's no estimated timeline for resolving what was meant to be a minor background update. Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players continue enjoying uninterrupted gameplay.
