Unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features

Genki, a prominent developer of gaming accessories, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed details gleaned from a black market acquisition of the console, providing insights into its hardware. The mockup, remarkably accurate in dimensions, highlighted a larger form factor approaching the size of Valve's Steam Deck.

Key features observed include magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button. Tsai confirmed the magnetic attachment of the Joy-Cons, specifically noting the SL and SR buttons. A release mechanism, integrated into each Joy-Con, disengages the magnetic connection. Despite the change from sliding rails, the Joy-Cons remain securely attached during gameplay.

Genki's Additional Insights:

The Joy-Cons incorporate optical sensors, potentially enabling mouse-like functionality with a future accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors. While larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2 remains slim enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, design differences prevent compatibility. The purpose of the "C" button and the additional USB-C port remains a mystery, even to Genki.
