The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant credence to earlier rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality.
The reveal trailer showcased detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to flat-bottomed connectors. These then move across the surface, mimicking mousepad interaction. A possible slider pad is visible on one connector, further supporting this theory.
Pre-reveal speculation centered on a Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications. Fans envision uses ranging from enhanced PC-style game experiences (like Civilization) to innovative applications within first-party Nintendo titles. The possibilities remain open.
While much about potential mouse support (and the function of a new Joy-Con button) remains unknown, key details about the Switch 2 are confirmed: the name, a 2025 release date, and an upcoming Mario Kart title. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is assured, and a dedicated Direct in April will unveil further software announcements. Stay tuned for comprehensive Switch 2 coverage.
