Nexus Mods Owner Faces Threats Over Removing Politician Mods

Nexus Mods, a popular platform for game modifications, finds itself at the center of a heated debate after removing over 500 mods for Marvel's Avengers in a single month. The controversy ignited when the site took down modifications that replaced Captain America's head with images of both Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

The platform's owner, known as TheDarkOne, addressed the situation in a Reddit discussion. He clarified that both the Biden and Trump mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of political favoritism. TheDarkOne stated, "We removed the Biden mod on the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. Yet, YouTube commentators seem to be ignoring this fact."

The fallout, however, extended beyond online criticism. TheDarkOne revealed that the removal resulted in a barrage of threats and abusive messages. He commented, "We're receiving death threats, being called pedophiles, and enduring a torrent of insults simply because someone chose to escalate this issue."

This isn't the first time Nexus Mods' moderation policies have sparked controversy. In 2022, a similar incident occurred when a mod for Spider-Man Remastered, which replaced rainbow flags with American flags, was removed. At the time, the site's owners publicly declared their commitment to inclusivity and their intention to remove content that contradicted this principle.

TheDarkOne concluded, "We won't waste time on those who find this objectionable."
