Bloomberg reports Warner Bros. Discovery has canceled a planned Hogwarts Legacy expansion amid company-wide restructuring, citing concerns over the content's projected value. Initially scheduled to release alongside a “Definitive Edition” this year, the DLC was being developed by Avalanche Software in collaboration with Rocksteady Studios. Despite this cancellation, a sequel to the game is confirmed to still be in development.

Hogwarts Legacy community manager Chandler Wood announced official modding support for the PC version, releasing as a free update on January 30. This update introduces the Creator Kit and Mod Manager tools, enabling players to seamlessly develop and install mods via CurseForge. This feature, however, is exclusive to PC, with no official modding support announced for console versions. While these tools unlock new creative possibilities—such as replacing broomsticks with dragons and introducing custom quests—they have also disrupted many existing unofficial mods. Prior to this update, PC players relied on third-party mods for customization, but the new system has rendered numerous older mods incompatible, affecting character models and gameplay adjustments.

Given the technical limitations of the original Switch port, a definitive or director's cut optimized for the next-generation hardware is expected to offer a vastly improved experience, potentially including bonus content to further enrich the magical adventure.

In a 2024 interview with Variety, Warner Bros. Interactive president David Haddad reflected on the monumental success of Hogwarts Legacy. He highlighted how the game provided fans an unprecedented level of immersion within the Harry Potter universe. By the time of the interview, players had brewed over 819 million potions, rescued 593 million magical creatures, and defeated 4.9 billion dark wizards. Haddad also confirmed Warner Bros.' ongoing commitment to the franchise, citing the then-in-beta Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions and hinting at additional Wizarding World projects currently in development.
