Dynasty Warriors games are renowned for their hack-and-slash combat, yet they demand a certain level of skill. Dynasty Warriors: Origins acknowledges this by providing players with four distinct difficulty settings, enabling them to customize the game's challenge to match their skill level and experience. As a reboot, it's understandable that both new and returning players might be uncertain about the optimal difficulty setting. The best choice can vary based on the player's skill and the level of challenge they seek.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers four difficulty settings, though initially, only three are accessible. Upon starting the game, players can select from Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). The Ultimate Warrior (very hard) setting unlocks once players complete one of the main scenarios for any of the three factions.
While there's a Trophy/Achievement for completing a single battle on Ultimate Warrior, there are no difficulty-specific rewards for finishing the main campaign.
For newcomers to the action-adventure genre or those primarily interested in the story, Historian is the ideal choice. Wayfarer suits most players, including those with limited Musou/Warriors game experience. Fans of the series might opt for Hero from the start, while Musou game experts should consider advancing to Ultimate Warrior once unlocked, to maintain a challenging experience as they tackle remaining missions, requests, and scenarios.
Players can adjust the difficulty between battles via the config menu if they find the gameplay too hard or too easy, without affecting the story.
In Historian mode, all enemy attacks are blockable, and it's easier to stagger enemies, gain bravery, and fill the Musou Gauge. In contrast, Hero mode features stronger, more aggressive enemies, shorter windows for parries and perfect evades, and no Meat Buns from enemies. Blocking depletes bravery, there's less time to influence battles, and Skill Points and gold earnings are slightly reduced. Ultimate Warrior mode intensifies these challenges, with even tighter parry and evade windows and significantly reduced battle earnings.
