"Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership"

by Michael Apr 20,2025

FromSoftware has unveiled additional details about their newly announced exclusive for the Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has influenced not only the game's style but also led to a unique design for the keeper of The Duskbloods' hub area, introducing a character that's distinctly cute.

During the Switch 2 Direct presentation, the trailer concluded with an intriguing shot of a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs, gazing directly at the camera. This character, as it turns out, serves as the hub companion for players.

In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance. I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."

Miyazaki elaborated on this "Nintendo-esque" approach, saying, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)." This marks a departure from the typical FromSoftware shrine keepers, such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll, who have traditionally been pivotal figures in the player's journey through their games.

Given that The Duskbloods is a PvPvE game, the nature of the guidance and advice provided by this winged rat remains to be seen. Miyazaki hinted at the introduction of "a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should anticipate surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
