Legendary Pictures' live-action Street Fighter adaptation has reportedly cast rising star Callina Liang as iconic fighter Chun-Li.

Deadline reports the actress has signed on for the pivotal role, signaling strong momentum for the film ahead of its scheduled March 20, 2026 release.

Liang launched her career in the 2022 series Tell Me Everything before appearing in Apple TV+'s Foundation in 2023. She's gained critical attention for her performances in two 2024 films - Steven Soderbergh's Presence and J.C. Lee's American remake Bad Genius.

The role marks Liang's breakthrough into mainstream cinema as she brings her interpretation of Chun-Li to global audiences. She joins previously announced co-stars including Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, WWE superstar Roman Reigns, and musician Orville Peck. Additional casting announcements detailing other Street Fighter character portrayals remain forthcoming.

Development traces back to April 2023 when Capcom partnered with Legendary to reboot the Street Fighter franchise. The studio initially hired Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou before creative differences led to their exit in 2024, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Undeterred, Legendary reaffirmed its commitment with a June 2024 announcement confirming the 2026 premiere date. Veteran director Kitao Sakurai (The Eric Andre Show, Twisted Metal) boarded the project to helm this new take on the fighting game classic.

As production progresses, fans can anticipate more details about Liang's Chun-Li and the overall storyline. In related Street Fighter news, Capcom recently celebrated surpassing 5 million sales for Street Fighter 6, demonstrating the franchise's enduring popularity.
