Call of Duty has unveiled exciting new features for the upcoming release of Black Ops 6, set to launch on October 25. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, sparking predictions from analysts about its impact on the subscription service.
Ahead of the official release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the developers have introduced a new arachnophobia toggle feature in the Zombies mode. This setting allows players to alter the appearance of spider-like enemies without impacting gameplay. When activated, the spider zombies undergo aesthetic changes, notably losing their legs, which amusingly makes them appear as if they are floating in the air. While this transformation is visually striking, it raises questions about whether the hitbox of the spider zombies adjusts to match their new appearance. Although the developers did not delve into specifics, it's reasonable to assume that the hitbox would be smaller in this shooter game.
Additionally, the "Pause and Save" feature is being introduced to Black Ops 6 Zombies, enabling solo players to pause, save, and resume their games at full health. With the return of the "Round-Based" mode, this feature is expected to significantly enhance gameplay, particularly on maps filled with challenges that require players to restart from the first round upon death.
With Black Ops 6 set to launch on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on day one, industry analysts predict a significant boost in Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, analysts anticipate millions of new subscribers, driven by the popularity of Call of Duty. Analyst Michael Pachter suggests that the inclusion of Black Ops 6 could attract between three to four million new Game Pass users.
However, Piers Harding-Rolls estimates a more conservative 10% increase in Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, approximately 2.5 million. This increase is likely to come from existing subscribers upgrading from Game Pass Core and Game Pass Standard to access Call of Duty.
Dr. Serkan Toto from Katan Games highlighted the pressure on Xbox to make the Game Pass business model successful with Black Ops 6. He noted that Microsoft's gaming division has faced challenges in growth, leading to the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The success of Black Ops 6 on Game Pass is seen as critical for Xbox's future strategy.
