Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delayed Again

Assassin's Creed Shadows: Further Delay Announced

Ubisoft has announced another delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing the release date back to March 20, 2025. Initially slated for a February 14th launch, this latest postponement adds a further five weeks to the development timeline.

The publisher cites the need to incorporate player feedback as the primary reason for the delay. This contrasts with the previous three-month delay announced in September 2024, which stemmed from internal development challenges related to historical accuracy. Ubisoft's Vice President and Executive Producer, Marc-Alexis Coté, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering a polished and immersive experience, facilitated by ongoing player interaction. Both delays, however, share a common goal: providing additional time for development refinement.

The initial delay, shifting the release from November 15th, 2024 to February 14th, 2025, prompted Ubisoft to offer pre-order refunds and free access to the game's first expansion to appease disappointed fans. Whether similar compensation will be offered for this latest delay remains unannounced. The shorter timeframe of this postponement may mitigate potential player backlash compared to the previous three-month setback.

This additional delay might also be connected to Ubisoft's ongoing internal investigation into its development practices, launched in response to disappointing sales figures and record losses in fiscal year 2023. The investigation aims to enhance a more "player-centric" approach to game development, and incorporating fan feedback into Assassin's Creed Shadows could be a direct result of this initiative.
