In an exciting announcement for fans, Metro is marking its 15th anniversary by offering Metro 2033 Redux for free. This limited-time offer, available until April 16, allows new players to dive into the iconic post-apocalyptic world where the franchise began. 4A Games, the developers behind Metro, made the announcement on their official Twitter (X) account on April 14, stating that the game is free on both Steam and Xbox until 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT on April 16.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary, 4A Games is not only offering Metro 2033 Redux for free for the next 48 hours but also planning a year-long celebration. In a blog post dated March 16, the developers outlined their plans for various events, deals, and celebratory content across Metro’s social media channels. This initiative aims to express gratitude to the community for their support throughout the franchise's journey.

Founded initially in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanded to Malta, 4A Games draws inspiration from Dmitry Glukhovsky's science fiction novels, particularly Metro 2033 and its sequels. Despite the challenging circumstances in Ukraine, the studio remains committed to addressing themes related to the ongoing war. The developers have expressed their determination to continue safely and responsibly, stating, "These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible, and we want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title, it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it."

The Next Metro

4A Games is currently working on two major projects: the next installment in the Metro series and a brand new IP. While details about the new IP remain under wraps, the developers have shared some insights into the development of the next Metro game. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has deeply influenced the narrative direction of the game. As stated in a studio update, "As we said in our last studio update, in 2022 a full-scale russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."
