In a welcome update for fans, Nintendo has officially confirmed that the *Nintendo Switch 2* version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will indeed support cloud saves. This clarification comes after some initial confusion caused by an earlier disclaimer on Nintendo’s website that led many to believe the enhanced port might not include this essential feature.
Previously, the official product page for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition included the following note: “Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.” Naturally, this sparked concern among players who rely on cloud saves to keep their progress secure and accessible across devices.
However, Nintendo has since revised its messaging. As reported by IGN and further clarified by Eurogamer, the updated disclaimer now reads: “Save data created in the second save data slot in *The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition* cannot be transferred to *The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom* on Nintendo Switch.”
This means good news for most players: you will be able to transfer your original Switch 1 save data to the enhanced Switch 2 version. The restriction only applies in reverse—Switch 2-generated save files won’t be compatible with the original Switch 1 version. This is likely due to differences in game data structure between the two versions.
What’s more, the same updated message has appeared on the product page for *The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition*, indicating that Nintendo is applying a consistent approach to save file compatibility across both major Zelda titles in the Switch 2 launch window.

Meanwhile, pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 have gone live globally, priced at $449.99. Given the high anticipation surrounding the console’s release, it’s no surprise that stock levels are limited.
