Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana masterfully introduces players to its bosses, teaching them to master game mechanics as they advance. Although the game may be shorter than typical RPGs, it compensates with a robust lineup of challenging bosses.
For newcomers, a few tips can ease the initial learning curve, but by the time you encounter Gyalva, Lord of the Blazing Prison, you'll need a solid understanding of combat, abilities, and other game mechanics to succeed.
- Boss Location: Zone of Lava, the Escapeless Abyss
After conquering Guilen, The Fire Eater, your journey through the Zone of Lava leads you to the formidable Gyalva. To simplify this battle, position yourself at one end of the bridge. With limited mobility due to the constantly shifting platforms, your strategy should involve jumping up to Gyalva and unleashing wind magic to inflict maximum damage quickly.
Ys remains a cornerstone of Nihon Falcom’s portfolio, and triumphing over its bosses delivers a gratifying sense of achievement.
Although Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is a remake of Ys 3 and continues the franchise's epic narrative, Gyalva is a fresh addition to the boss roster. This adversary employs several aggressive tactics, capable of inflicting significant damage rapidly. Gyalva flies around the bridge, often dislodging sections with its fiery assaults.
To prepare for this battle, consider upgrading Adol extensively, aiming for Level 21. This level can be reached efficiently by defeating all minor enemies encountered along the way.
Gyalva deploys two types of spinning attacks. The first involves flying over a section of the bridge, causing the plates to spin upwards. The second sees Gyalva soaring over the entire bridge in a straight path, flipping the plates as it goes. Both can severely impact your health if you're not adequately leveled.
To dodge the first attack, quickly move to the side of the affected area. For the second, your safest bet is to stay on one of the ledges at either end of the bridge. Staying close to one side ensures quick access to safety.
Avoid lingering at the bridge's very end to prevent being cornered. Instead, maneuver around the bridge to land hits on Gyalva before retreating to the nearest ledge.
Gyalva launches a fireball onto the bridge, propelling the plates upward. While this can deal damage, it also offers a brief opportunity to attack Gyalva.
The bridge's torches periodically erupt in flames, with fireballs passing between them. These bursts can harm you, but once they subside, it's safe to move through the area.
