Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana offers a fresh entry point into the series, even though it's a chronological replacement for Ys 3. It introduces new players to a significant challenge with Dularn, but Ellefale, The Azure Queen of Death, takes the intensity to another level. A key strategy for facing this formidable boss is to avoid close combat at all costs, as her attacks are much more likely to connect when you're near.
Ellefale can withstand a substantial amount of damage on normal difficulty, and the challenge becomes even more daunting on higher difficulties. However, with the right tools, such as the Ignis Bracelet, overcoming her is achievable.
In Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, preparation is key. Players should engage in grinding to ensure their health exceeds 100. While Raval Ore can be used to upgrade armor, it's wise to conserve it for later, superior upgrades.
Rushing into battle at the start is ill-advised; Ellefale is just out of reach of basic attacks, making such a move risky. Instead, utilize the Ignis Bracelet to shoot fireballs from a distance. Positioning yourself at the opposite end of the arena minimizes the risk of getting hit, as Ellefale's attacks, while limited, are potent and can quickly drain your health.
Each of Ellefale's attacks can restrict player movement within the arena, emphasizing the importance of strategic positioning. Here are the four attacks in her arsenal:
Ellefale launches a spinning disc towards the player, which is too fast to outrun across the arena. The only way to evade this is by jumping at the right moment. Jumping too early or too late will result in damage. This attack, signaled by Ellefale raising her right arm, demands sharp reflexes and can be a game-changer in the battle.
This attack is easier to dodge; simply moving left or right will suffice. However, players might need to combine this movement with a jump to avoid a simultaneous spinning disc. Ellefale telegraphs this move by raising her right arm.
Arguably the most challenging of Ellefale's attacks, the lightning strike requires quick action. When Ellefale leans forward, charge towards her; when she raises both arms, retreat to the opposite end of the arena and jump. This maneuver ensures you're out of the lightning's path, which would otherwise hit you if you were moving or jumping towards her.
Ellefale's spinning sphere moves slowly across the arena, potentially blocking off safe areas. While easy to outrun on its own, it can become dangerous when combined with other attacks. Ellefale signals this move by raising both wings, alerting players to adjust their positioning accordingly.
