BioWare delivers both good and bad news for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The game will launch without Denuvo DRM, but PC players will miss out on preloading.
Veilguard: DRM-Free, No Preload for PC
BioWare's Michael Gamble announced on Twitter (X) that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will not utilize Denuvo anti-piracy software on PC. This decision, driven by trust in the player base, has been met with positive reactions, as Denuvo is often associated with performance issues. The absence of DRM, however, means no preload option for PC gamers. This is a significant drawback, considering the game's substantial 100GB storage requirement. Console players, however, can preload. Xbox early access players can install now, while PlayStation early access begins October 29th. Gamble also confirmed that the game will not require constant online connectivity.
System requirements were also released alongside the DRM announcement. High-end PCs can leverage ray tracing and uncapped frame rates, while minimum specs prioritize accessibility. Consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) will offer fidelity and performance modes, targeting 30 and 60 FPS respectively. For maximum ray tracing on PC, players need at least an Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU, 16GB RAM, and an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT GPU.
