Valve's MOBA hero shooter, Deadlock, remains in an invite-only testing phase, with the company diligently working on its development and iteration. However, a recent livestream mishap appears to have unveiled the existence of a second, even more exclusive playtest, showcasing new characters and redesigns.
The leak originated from a livestream hosted by a prominent Deadlock player, who inadvertently opened the wrong build of the game on stream, as reported by Eurogamer. The footage, captured by viewers, revealed several new characters, including the retro-styled Doorman, the bespectacled Bookworm, and the gothic Vampirebat. Additionally, there were visual updates to existing characters like Ivy. Despite the streamer's quick attempt to close the stream upon realizing the mistake, the information had already spread.
As of now, no further details have emerged, but the leak is still recent. Deadlock is no stranger to leaks, having been the subject of numerous ones regarding its existence and content. While it's not uncommon for games to have test builds for a larger audience to test upcoming updates, it's somewhat unusual for Deadlock, which is still in its early, invite-only stage.Reactions on the r/DeadlockTheGame subreddit are mixed, with some players expressing frustration over feeling excluded from this additional playtest. Even in its more public build, Deadlock has undergone significant changes, including the removal of an entire lane. Valve has previously utilized the Hero Labs mode to allow players to test new heroes, but this appears to be an additional, more exclusive method of testing.
Despite its invite-only status, Deadlock has attracted a considerable number of players and garnered attention from fans of both shooter games and MOBAs. As a new game from Valve, it already carries a level of intrigue, and its unusual rollout and continued exclusivity only add to its mystique. The revelation of this second, even more exclusive build has given players yet another topic to speculate on.
However, as one Reddit user humorously pointed out, amidst the excitement and speculation, it's crucial to keep perspective: "Oh great, as if one Lash wasn't bad enough, now there are two of him!"
