Valorant is escalating its fight against cheaters with the introduction of ranked rollbacks. This new anti-cheat measure will reverse a player's rank or progress if their match was compromised by hackers. The goal is to deter cheating and ensure fair gameplay for all Valorant players. Importantly, players who were on the same team as a cheater will retain their rank rating, preventing unjust penalties for those unfairly paired with hackers.
The recent surge in cheating activity prompted Riot Games to announce these stricter measures. Phillip Koskinas, Riot's head of anti-cheat, confirmed the problem and assured players that Riot is actively working on solutions. He highlighted the effectiveness of Valorant's Vanguard anti-cheat system, showcasing impressive ban numbers for January alone, with a peak on January 13th. This demonstrates Riot's ongoing commitment to combating cheating.
Ranked Rollbacks: How They Work
The ranked rollback system addresses a key concern: players winning matches with cheaters on their team. Koskinas clarified that while the enemy team will have their rank adjusted to reflect the unfair advantage, players who played alongside the cheater will not be penalized. Although this approach might temporarily inflate rankings, Riot believes it's the fairest solution moving forward.
Valorant's Vanguard system, utilizing kernel-level access, has set a high standard for anti-cheat technology. Its success has even influenced other games, such as Call of Duty, to adopt similar methods. Despite past successes in banning thousands of cheaters, the persistent nature of cheating necessitates ongoing adaptation and stronger countermeasures.
The effectiveness of the new ranked rollback system remains to be seen, but Riot's proactive approach and demonstrated commitment to fair play offer hope for a more enjoyable and competitive Valorant experience for legitimate players.
