Hyper Light Breaker offers players a diverse range of characters, known as Breakers, each with unique playstyles to combat the formidable Abyss King. Unlocking new characters in this game is straightforward, yet the process isn't explicitly detailed in-game. This guide will walk you through how to unlock new Breakers and provide an overview of the characters available in the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker. We'll keep this guide updated as more characters become available.
To unlock new characters, you'll need to collect Abyss Stones, which are dropped exclusively by defeating Crowns, the game's bosses. Before you can face these bosses, you must first acquire Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. You can find Prisms on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost via the teleporter. Here, you can select the Breaker you wish to unlock and spend your Abyss Stones to make them playable. Currently, there are nine characters in the game, but only two are unlockable in the early access version. The method for unlocking the remaining characters is yet to be revealed.
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker starts with a SyCom, a crucial item that defines their base stats and core perk, shaping their unique playstyle. Here's a detailed look at each character and their playstyles:
Vermillion is the initial character you'll encounter, equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which enhances his ranged combat capabilities. His Rail shots have a chance to crit, and if they do, the next shot is guaranteed to crit as well.
For those who prefer melee combat, Vermillion can switch to the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and offers better defensive and melee stats, making it a safer choice overall.
Lapis starts with the Lightweaver SyCom, which increases the damage of her Rail shots after picking up a Battery. Her unique trait is the Warrior SyCom, which enhances her core stats with each upgrade she receives.
Lapis excels with both SyComs, but the Warrior SyCom makes her exceptionally powerful over time. With enough upgrades, she can surpass other Breakers in terms of raw stats, turning her into a formidable force on the battlefield.
Goro is tailored for ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom, which speeds up his Blade skill charging while shooting. His unlockable Sniper SyCom increases his critical hit rate, making him a high-risk, high-reward character.
Goro fits the profile of a ranged glass cannon, boasting higher damage potential than Vermillion and Lapis but lacking in defensive capabilities. Mastering Goro requires skill, but when played effectively, he can be a devastating force against enemies.
