Ubisoft Unveils Skull and Bones Land Combat for Fall

by Anthony Jun 03,2025

Ubisoft is charting a bold course for Skull and Bones Year 2, promising to deliver its most ambitious content yet. The highly anticipated updates include brand-new game modes, additional ships, and a fearsome Kraken, along with a feature fans have eagerly awaited since the game’s debut: land combat.

In a special showcase held yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its treasure trove of plans for the upcoming year, with Season 3: Guts and Glory taking center stage. This season introduces land combat, fulfilling a long-standing wish from the community. Set to arrive this fall, players will finally step onto sandy beaches and damp caves, engaging in sword fights and gun duels. Season 3 also features Rogue Warlords, where players must rescue skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A preview video teased the feature, hinting at exciting possibilities, though full details will unfold later this year.

While land combat is the standout addition for Year 2, Ubisoft didn’t stop there. Season 1 kicked off today, April 15, with “Ascent into Chaos,” introducing a loot-enhancing item ascension system, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, launching in summer 2025, brings Megaforts and gargantuan Frigate large ships. Season 4: Eye of the Beast, scheduled for winter, introduces the legendary Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and a Corvette large ship.

Excited to dive in? Ubisoft is hosting a free weekend from April 17–21, allowing players to experience pirate PvP firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period.

Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Despite Ubisoft’s silence on official sales figures, the game reportedly garnered record player engagement post-launch. Interestingly, its arrival also sparked a 200% surge in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag players.
