Sydney Sweeney, known for her standout role in Madame Web, is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to star in the upcoming live-action Mobile Suit Gundam movie.

Back in February, it was officially announced that the long-anticipated live-action adaptation of the iconic anime and toy franchise Mobile Suit Gundam had moved into production. The project is being co-financed by Bandai Namco and Legendary Entertainment.

The collaboration confirmed that the film—currently untitled—will be written and directed by Kim Mickle, best known as the showrunner of Sweet Tooth. The movie is set for a global theatrical release, though no specific release date or plot details have been revealed yet. However, a teaser poster has already been unveiled, offering fans their first visual glimpse into the project.

According to Variety, Sweeney is in talks to join the cast of the Gundam live-action film. At this time, neither her character nor the storyline has been disclosed.

Sweeney’s recent work includes starring roles in HBO’s Euphoria, The White Lotus, Reality, and Anyone but You. Her involvement in Madame Web also sparked significant media attention. Just last month, she signed on to produce and star in a horror film based on a viral Reddit story.

When the live-action Mobile Suit Gundam film was first announced, both Legendary and Bandai Namco expressed their commitment to transparency with fans. “We plan to steadily announce details as they become finalized,” the companies stated at the time.

They also reflected on the legacy of Mobile Suit Gundam, which made its debut in 1979 and revolutionized the robot anime genre. Unlike earlier shows that depicted robots as symbols of good fighting evil, Gundam introduced a more grounded, realistic portrayal of war through its concept of mobile suits as weapons. With intricate storytelling, complex characters, and detailed world-building, the series sparked a massive cultural phenomenon that continues to thrive today.
