"Street Fighter 6 Reaches 5 Million Sales Boosted by Nintendo Switch 2 Launch"

by Connor Jul 23,2025

Street Fighter 6 has surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide, Capcom has officially announced. This marks a significant increase from the 4 million units sold as of September 2024, with the recent milestone driven in part by the game’s launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Capcom strategically released Street Fighter 6 on the Switch 2 at launch to maximize its player base. The new version introduces exclusive game modes and innovative features that take advantage of the Joy-Con 2’s gyro controls, enhancing gameplay precision and immersion. Notably, the Switch 2 edition supports crossplay, ensuring a broader and more connected multiplayer experience across platforms.

“These initiatives have significantly contributed to Street Fighter 6’s broad appeal, expanded global reach, and helped achieve the impressive milestone of 5 million units sold,” Capcom stated.

The game first reached 3 million copies sold in January 2024, just seven months after its initial release. Capcom has consistently maintained that Street Fighter 6 is performing in line with expectations. Prior to launch, the company set an ambitious target of surpassing the lifetime sales of Street Fighter 5, aiming for over 10 million units sold. With 5 million achieved, the title is halfway to that goal but still trails behind Street Fighter 5’s total of 7.8 million copies.

For context, classic entries in the franchise include Street Fighter 2 Turbo (4.1 million), the original Street Fighter 2 (6.3 million), and Street Fighter 5 (7.8 million). Comparatively, Mortal Kombat 1—Street Fighter 6’s key competitor—has also reached 5 million sales since its September 2023 release. Despite matching Street Fighter 6’s current numbers, Mortal Kombat 1 is considered underperforming by industry standards, leading developer NetherRealm to shift focus to its next project.

Capcom remains fully committed to supporting Street Fighter 6 into its third year. The company recently unveiled a new wave of DLC characters: Sagat (arriving summer 2025), C. Viper (fall 2025), Alex (early spring 2026), and Ingrid (late spring 2026). The announcement was made in a high-energy trailer featuring pro wrestler Kenny Omega portraying each character.

IGN awarded Street Fighter 6 a 9/10 in its review, praising it as “the most feature-rich Street Fighter at launch.” The review highlighted the game’s exceptional 18-character roster, innovative mechanics that breathe new life into the fighting genre, and attention to detail that elevates the overall experience.
