It’s 2025, and Sony PlayStation has officially entered the arena with its own wireless fight stick, designed for both PS5 and PC. This marks a significant move for the platform, especially for the competitive fighting game community.
Edwin Foo, VP of product development at Sony Interactive Entertainment, emphasized that the stick — internally dubbed Project Defiant — is built to offer players “greater flexibility to enjoy their favorite fighting games” across platforms. The controller aims to bridge the gap between accessibility and performance, catering to both casual players and seasoned fighters.
Sony highlights ultra-low latency connectivity, ensuring a seamless wireless experience on PS5 or PC. For those who prefer a wired setup, that option remains available, which is crucial for fighting game enthusiasts who rely on precise and instantaneous input response during high-stakes matches.
The fight stick also features an ergonomic design tailored for extended gameplay sessions, a custom high-quality digital stick engineered by Sony, and toolless interchangeable restrictor gates. Players can easily switch between square, circular, or octagonal gate types — all of which can be safely stored inside the controller’s built-in compartment when not in use. A convenient sling carry case is also included, making it easy to bring your gear to tournaments or gaming meetups.
As of now, Sony has not yet revealed the official price or exact release date for Project Defiant, only confirming a 2026 launch window.
This release is well-timed with Sony’s broader gaming ambitions, particularly its collaboration with Arc System Works — the acclaimed studio behind the Guilty Gear series — on Marvel Tsum Tsum: Fighting Souls, a new 4v4 Marvel fighting game. The title is also set to launch in 2026, suggesting a coordinated release that could excite both Marvel fans and competitive players alike.
Sony kicked off the summer gaming season with a strong lineup, delivering a wide array of new titles during its 2025 PlayStation State of Play event. Highlights included 007 First Light, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and the release date reveal for Silent Hill f. [ttpp]
