Sony's CES 2025 showcase delivered exciting news for fans of HBO's The Last of Us: Season 2 will premiere in April. The announcement came alongside a new trailer offering glimpses of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and the memorable Dina and Ellie dance scene.
While highly anticipated, Season 2 won't be a direct adaptation of The Last of Us Part II. Co-creator Craig Mazin previously hinted that the sequel's storyline might span three seasons. This seven-episode season (compared to Season 1's nine) suggests creative liberties will be taken to expand upon the narrative and characters, as evidenced by the trailer's inclusion of a scene depicting Joel Miller's therapy, absent from the game.
The concise, action-packed trailer, clocking in at just over a minute, features several quick cuts of iconic moments. The red flare at the end solidified the April premiere, narrowing down the previously announced Spring 2025 release window (March-June). A specific date remains unannounced.
New Footage and Fan Speculation:
The trailer, while largely comprised of previously released footage, offered fresh perspectives. Dever's Abby, the dance sequence, and the opening alarm sequence were highlighted as new additions. Online discussions have centered around the identity of Catherine O'Hara's character and the use of Roman numerals in the trailer's styling, reminiscent of Part II. Speculation also surrounds the potential inclusion of additional cast members beyond those already announced, including Jesse and the return of Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon. Season 1 successfully introduced original characters alongside those from the game, setting a precedent for creative adaptation in Season 2.
