Rocksteady begins search for Game Director for its next Batman game

by Sadie Feb 28,2025

Rocksteady Studios is actively seeking a Game Director for its next major project, as evidenced by a job posting from Warner Bros. Discovery on February 17th.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of game design, from core mechanics and player progression to combat systems and mission structure. Ideal candidates possess experience across diverse genres, including third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee-focused combat titles. This has fueled speculation about a potential return to the Batman franchise, the series that propelled Rocksteady to prominence.

The requirements outlined in the job description strongly align with the Batman: Arkham series, unlike the studio's recent release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which prioritized gunplay over close-quarters combat.

As Rocksteady is in the initial hiring stages, the game is likely still in its conceptual phase. Industry analyst Jason Schreier suggests that a new single-player Batman title, should it materialize, is several years away.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Rocksteady's latest offering, launched on February 2nd, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). The game received mixed critical reception, scoring 63/100 on Metacritic (critics) and a 4.2/10 user score.

Previous reports have hinted at a possible Rocksteady Batman project, potentially inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series.
