Pokémon TCG Unveils Trainer Comebacks in 2025

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is bringing back beloved features from its past! Pokémon has announced the return of "Trainer's Pokémon" cards in 2025, a nostalgic element from the game's early days. This exciting news, revealed at the 2024 Pokémon World Championships, was accompanied by a teaser trailer showcasing trainers like Marnie, Lillie, and N, and hinting at a possible Team Rocket comeback.

The trailer featured Lillie’s Clefairy ex, Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex, N’s Zoroark ex, and N’s Reshiram, giving fans a glimpse of these classic Trainer's Pokémon cards, known for their unique abilities and artwork. Furthermore, the teaser included Mewtwo alongside the iconic Team Rocket symbol, fueling speculation about a new Team Rocket-themed card set or even the return of Dark Pokémon, another popular mechanic from the game's past. Rumors of Team Rocket's return have circulated, with reports mentioning a Japanese retailer listing and a trademark filing by The Pokémon Company.

Beyond the Trainer's Pokémon and Team Rocket hints, the World Championships also unveiled the first cards from the upcoming Paradise Dragona set. According to PokeBeach, this Japanese subset, featuring Latias, Latios, Exeggcute, and Alolan Exeggutor ex, will be released in English as part of the Surging Sparks set in November 2024. This announcement follows the upcoming conclusion of the Kitikami chapter with the release of Shrouded Fable, a 99-card expansion (64 main cards and 35 secret rare cards) this month. With these exciting developments, the Pokémon TCG promises a wave of new content for players to enjoy.
