Starfield Teases PlayStation Release in New Build

by Liam Nov 14,2025

Rumors about Starfield potentially launching on PlayStation 5 gained traction over the weekend when fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website.

The logo appeared alongside an early-stage ship decals mod for Starfield. Though the mod was later removed, players now speculate that Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG—currently limited to PC and Xbox—might soon expand to PS5.

This discovery raises questions about whether Bethesda plans a major content update or even a new expansion timed with Starfield’s potential PS5 debut. Since the underwhelming Shattered Space expansion, updates have been scarce. Microsoft, Bethesda’s parent company, typically hosts a summer showcase—this year’s event could reveal Starfield’s future plans.

Bethesda has promised "exciting things" for Starfield in 2024, addressing player frustrations over communication gaps. In June, the studio reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Starfield, confirming at least one more story expansion after Shattered Space. Todd Howard told YouTube’s MrMattyPlays that annual expansions are planned "for hopefully a very long time."

Released in September 2023, Starfield marked Bethesda’s first original IP in decades and its debut single-player title post-Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media. IGN’s Starfield review scored it 7/10, praising its "expansive RPG quests and solid combat" despite initial hurdles.

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer hasn’t denied PS5 rumors for Starfield. Reports dating back to March 2024 suggested both Starfield and MachineGames’ Indiana Jones could come to PS5. While Indiana Jones secured a spring 2025 PS5 release after its Xbox/PC debut, Starfield remains unconfirmed—though Spencer hinted at possibilities.

Several Xbox titles are already on PS5, including Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation and plans PS5 releases for Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4. Forza Horizon 5 is confirmed for PS5, and rumors suggest Halo might finally shed its Xbox exclusivity.

Spencer attributes Xbox’s cross-platform strategy to boosting revenue, especially after Microsoft’s $69 billion Activision Blizzard purchase.

"We’re running a business," Spencer stated last August. "Microsoft expects strong returns given their tremendous support. Expanding to console, PC, and cloud ensures our games reach their full potential."

Bethesda Game Studios, with 450 developers across five teams (Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile, and partnerships), faces a packed schedule ahead.
