With the official reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 now behind us, it appears the collaboration between Nintendo and Xbox is far from over. Microsoft’s Head of Gaming, Phil Spencer, recently reiterated his company's ongoing commitment to supporting Nintendo’s platforms, emphasizing the importance of reaching audiences beyond Xbox and PC.
In a recent interview with *Variety*, Spencer was asked about Microsoft’s potential plans for the Nintendo Switch 2. His response made one thing clear: just as Xbox has supported the original Switch, it intends to continue that support with its successor.
"Nintendo has been a great partner. We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox," Spencer explained. "It lets us continue to grow our community of people that care about the franchises that we have, and that’s really important for us to make sure we continue to invest in our games."
He also expressed strong belief in Nintendo’s role within the gaming industry, noting how vital it is for Xbox to maintain this partnership moving forward. “I’m really a big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry and us continuing to support them,” Spencer added. “And getting the support from them for our franchises, I think, is an important part of our future.”
This isn’t the first time Spencer voiced enthusiasm for the Nintendo Switch 2. Back when the console was first teased, he praised Nintendo for its innovation and confirmed that Xbox would continue bringing its titles to multiple platforms—including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo systems.
When asked whether the Switch 2 announcement stirred any urgency at Xbox regarding its own hardware roadmap, Spencer remained composed. He stressed the importance of focusing on existing player communities rather than reacting directly to competition. “No. I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base that we’re building,” he said. “I get inspired by what a lot of different creators do and other platform holders. But I believe in the plans that we have.”
Microsoft remains committed to delivering high-quality games across as many platforms as possible—cloud, PC, and consoles included. Titles like *Pentiment* and Obsidian’s *Grounded* have already found homes on Nintendo devices, and fans are eager to see which Xbox exclusives might make their way to the Switch 2 after its launch.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is officially set to release on June 5, 2025. While pre-orders have not yet begun, be sure to check back regularly on our [ttpp] for updates on when they’ll go live.
