Nintendo Switch 2 features Joy-Con mouse control

by Julian Oct 14,2025

Nintendo confirms players can navigate the Switch 2 Home screen using Joy-Con mouse controls

Following early speculation about the Switch 2 Joy-Con's mouse functionality, Nintendo officially verified last month that the controllers feature a "mouse mode." This innovative control scheme lets players slide Joy-Cons across surfaces while using analog sticks for left/right clicks - essentially mimicking traditional mouse operations. Notably, users can employ two Joy-Cons simultaneously in mouse mode or mix-and-match with standard controls.

Enhanced Navigation Comes to Switch 2's Interface

New footage from the Nintendo Today app (later shared on social media) demonstrates how Joy-Con mouse controls will revolutionize navigation on Switch 2's Home menu interface.

Nintendo explains: "When placed attachment-side down on any flat surface, Joy-Con 2 will display an on-screen cursor. Simply move the controller to navigate." Players can tilt control sticks for menu scrolling, with mouse functionality available both system-wide and in compatible software. Traditional thumbstick controls reactivate automatically when returning Joy-Con 2 to horizontal orientation.

Mouse Compatibility Extends to Launch Titles

While full game compatibility remains undisclosed, Nintendo has demonstrated mouse controls functioning seamlessly with upcoming Switch 2 releases including Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and sports title Drag x Drive.

The groundbreaking Nintendo Switch 2 launches June 5 following its April 24 pre-order debut at $449.99. For complete purchasing details, consult IGN's comprehensive pre-order guide.
