Just because *The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker* is set to join the GameCube library on Nintendo Switch 2 doesn’t necessarily rule out a full port or remaster in the future. This possibility was hinted at by Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of product development, during a conversation with Tim Gettys of Kinda Funny.
Bihldorff noted that inclusion in the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) GameCube lineup doesn’t automatically eliminate the chance of a separate release—whether that be a remake, remaster, or even the original Wii U version. His comments offer hope for fans still dreaming of revisiting the beloved cel-shaded adventure in a more modern format.
Despite their popularity, both *The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker* (2003) and *Twilight Princess* have yet to make their way to the Nintendo Switch, either in original or enhanced form. With *Wind Waker* now confirmed to arrive via NSO when [ttpp] launches on June 5, some fans had begun to worry that this might mark the end of the road for a standalone release.
However, as Gettys recounted, Bihldorff was quick to emphasize that “all options are on the table.” While no official plans were revealed, he pointed out precedents where games appeared on NSO while still being available through other formats later. So, while nothing has been confirmed, the door remains open—and Nintendo isn't ruling anything out.
As revealed during the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, a collection of classic GameCube titles is headed to Nintendo Switch Online as part of its premium tier. This marks a significant expansion of the service’s retro offerings and includes iconic titles such as *F-Zero GX*, *Soulcalibur 2*, and naturally, *The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker*.
These titles will become available this summer upon the service’s launch, with additional games teased for future additions—among them *Super Mario Sunshine*, *Luigi’s Mansion*, *Super Mario Strikers*, and *Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness*. It's an exciting time for retro gaming fans and further strengthens the value of Nintendo Switch Online’s premium subscription.
In related news, the pre-order timeline for Nintendo Switch 2 has faced delays in both the United States and Canada. These setbacks reportedly stem from financial disruptions caused by import tariffs originally enacted under the Trump administration. Nintendo Canada has since confirmed that pre-orders will also be delayed north of the border.
