Get ready for a blast from the past! Nintendo has just revealed its latest collaboration with LEGO: a buildable LEGO Game Boy! Launching October 2025, this follows the successful LEGO NES release, marking the second Nintendo console to receive the LEGO treatment.
While exciting news for fans of both brands, the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked a flurry of speculation regarding the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2. Many users humorously interpreted the LEGO Game Boy as a cryptic reveal of the next console, highlighting the anticipation surrounding the Switch's successor.
Although Nintendo remains tight-lipped about the Switch 2, President Furukawa's May 7, 2024 statement promising an announcement within the current fiscal year (ending March) keeps hopes alive. The wait continues!
Pricing details for the LEGO Game Boy are yet to be unveiled, but Nintendo promises further information in the coming weeks and months.
Beyond the NES and Game Boy, Nintendo and LEGO have previously teamed up to produce sets based on popular franchises such as Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and The Legend of Zelda (TLZ).
A notable example is the May 2024 release of the 2,500-piece "Great Deku Tree 2-in-1" LEGO set from The Legend of Zelda. Featuring iconic elements from Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild, including Princess Zelda and the Master Sword, this set retails at $299.99 USD.
Following closely in July 2024, a Super Mario World LEGO set debuted, showcasing a unique, crank-operated depiction of Mario riding Yoshi in pixel art form. This set is priced at $129.99 USD.
Stay tuned for more updates on the LEGO Game Boy and the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2!
