In a recent interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1, will handle the characters Omni-Man and Homelander. Addressing fans' concerns about potential similarities in their combat styles, Boon emphasized the developers' commitment to creating distinct experiences for each hero.
Boon revealed that the creative team at NetherRealm Studios has been given the freedom to explore various ideas for these characters. However, their goal is to avoid overlapping abilities, especially those reminiscent of Superman. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon stated, ensuring that each character will offer unique gameplay.
Furthermore, Boon highlighted how the team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to craft their Fatalities. This approach not only differentiates their main attacks but also ensures that players will experience two very different heroes. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon explained, dispelling any notions of redundancy between Homelander and Omni-Man.
